August 2024 Club Recap and Inspiration
Share
Hello, yarn fans!
This month marks the first time that all four of our Club colorways went out into the world. I am so excited about this project, and I truly appreciate each and every subscriber. The fact that you believe in me enough to trust that I can surprise you with beautiful yarn...seriously, thank you!
One of the club members (Hi, Maria!) contacted me this week and asked if I am sharing about how I've been inspired each month. Well....what a fantastic idea!
So, let's dive in to my brain for a little bit and see the inner workings of this process.
First up: The Monthly Club!
This is technically installment #2 since I started this club last month, so we'll chat about both yarns. The first one, To Dye For, has some of my favorite colors. I've been really into blues, teals, purples, and pinks, and so these colors seemed like a great place to start. With Summer Sock Camp in full swing, these 90s colors fit in with the theme. As for the name, well, you know how nail polish brands often have puns as names for their colors? That's what I was channeling here. My husband, Jeff, cracks me up every time he's talking about his favorite foods and describes them as being "to die for," so that's how that happened.
and since the internet is flooded with videos of people eating every-day things that turn out to be cake, this yarn was born. One thing that I am really trying to focus on with these club colorways is pushing colors as much as I can. Since I'm not repeating these colorways, I don't have to take notes about specific colors and techniques, so I'm free to go wild. You'll notice a *lot* of different dyes in these club colorways...if I'm adding pink, for instance, there are going to be multiple pinks. I want these skeins to be super interesting to look at and knit with!
Next: The Ora et Labora Club!
I took a look at the upcoming liturgical calendar for August for this one, and of course the Feast of the Assumption jumped out. As a slave of the Immaculate Heart (have you consecrated yourself to Jesus through Mary yet?), this was a perfect way to inaugurate the Ora et Labora Club! I was inspired by this beautiful painting of the Assumption by Juan de Jesus Munera Ochoa.
I love the contrast of the bright Marian sapphire blue and the reds, pinks, and yellows of the flowers with the delicate creamy whites.
Next up, The Aesthetic Club!
For this club, I'm pushing myself to focus on semisolids, light speckling, tonals, and other really simple colorways. I love my crazy, highly variegated skeins, but sometimes we need something simple to knit with. Whether you like to knit intricately textured socks or dabble in color work, this is the club that will help those projects shine. I recently signed up for Summer Lee Knit's new Colorwork Cuff Club, which would be great to pair with this yarn subscription. The first month's colorway is a beautiful sage green named Knitflix and Chill. I thought that this relaxing colorway would be perfect for a quiet evening catching up with the latest binge-worthy show. Lately I've been watching both The Office and The Middle. What are you watching?
Lastly: The Christmas Socks Club!
For this yarn, I went to my family for inspiration. I had a few fun suggestions (and wrote them down!) but ultimately went with Christmas in Killarney. I grew up listening to Bing Crosby's White Christmas album, so those songs have a special place in my heart. It doesn't feel right to decorate the Christmas Tree without Bing in the background! Thus, we took a trip to Ireland with this Emerald Isle inspired colorway.
Well, that's it for this month! Preorders for the September editions close on the 15th, so be sure to sign up or make any changes before then. I can't wait to start dyeing!
